Managing personal Outlook.com account settings, security, and privacy
Access to the Call of Duty account is controlled by the Microsoft account security and verification methods configured on the Outlook.com / Microsoft account being used.
If verification codes are not being received or a “try another verification method” or similar block appears, follow these steps:
- Check and update security info
- Go to the Security basics page and sign in with the Microsoft account used for COD7: https://account.microsoft.com/security
- Select Update info.
- Choose a verification method that still works (another email or phone), or select I don't have any of these to start replacing security info.
- If the code is sent to another Microsoft email
If the alternate email ends in @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com, or @msn.com, use private browsing so both accounts can stay signed in:
- Open a browser in privacy/InPrivate mode.
- Sign in to the first account (the one asking for the code) and leave that tab open at the code prompt.
- Open a new privacy/InPrivate window (for example, Ctrl+Shift+P in Microsoft Edge).
- In that new window, sign in to the alternate email account and get the verification code from the message.
- Go back to the first window and enter the code.
- If no verification code is arriving
For a personal Microsoft account:
- Confirm the phone number or email is correct on the Security basics page (steps above).
- If using SMS, make sure the phone is not blocking texts from unknown numbers and the inbox is not full.
- If using email, check the Junk or Spam folder for messages from @accountprotection.microsoft.com and mark that sender as trusted.
- If the account is blocked or shows “Try another verification method”
Blocks can be caused by unusual activity or too many verification attempts:
- Try a different verification method already on the account (alternate email instead of SMS, or vice versa).
- Try a different network (switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or use another Wi‑Fi network).
- Stop repeated attempts and wait: wait at least 24 hours without many retries; if still blocked, wait longer (up to a week) before trying again.
- Use the sign‑in helper to diagnose sign‑in issues and see available recovery options: Sign-in helper or Start.
- If still unable to sign in
- For a personal Microsoft account, complete the account recovery form at https://account.live.com/acsr (if not already done) with as much accurate information as possible.
- If recovery fails, try again after some time with additional details (old passwords, folders, contacts, subjects of recent emails, etc.).
- For additional technical support, go to Contact Microsoft Support, describe the sign‑in/verification issue, select Get Help, then Contact Support. Support agents cannot send verification codes or change security info but can guide through available recovery options.
If none of the verification methods or recovery options work, access to the Microsoft account (and therefore the linked COD7 account) cannot be restored until ownership is successfully verified through the available Microsoft account recovery tools.
