Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Cancelling a Microsoft 365 subscription normally requires signing in with the Microsoft account that purchased the subscription. When sign-in is not possible because account details (email/phone) are no longer accessible, direct self-service cancellation through Microsoft is not available.
In this situation, the practical options are:
- Work with the payment provider
- Contact the bank or credit card issuer used for the Microsoft 365 charges.
- Ask them to stop future recurring payments to Microsoft or dispute/ block the subscription charge.
- This is specifically recommended when the account cannot be accessed, because Microsoft cannot bypass account security based only on information like name, phone, or card details.
- Attempt formal account recovery/ownership route
- If the account owner is unable to access the account, the only Microsoft-side path is to follow the formal ownership/identity process described for accounts in special circumstances (for example, when someone else must act on behalf of the account owner). This is a legal/verification process and can be lengthy and is not guaranteed to succeed.
Because Microsoft support cannot cancel a subscription without validating ownership of the Microsoft account, and ownership cannot be validated without access to that account or successful completion of the formal process, working through the bank/credit card issuer is typically the most effective way to stop further charges.
