To be reimbursed for an unused Microsoft 365 (or other Microsoft) subscription that was created and billed by mistake, follow these steps:
- Cancel the subscription
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the account that was billed.
- Find the subscription under Services & subscriptions and select Manage.
- Select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel) and follow the on-screen steps to complete cancellation.
- Check refund eligibility
- Not all cancellations result in a refund. Refunds depend on the subscription type, when it was billed, and regional policies.
- In some countries, prorated refunds are available for Microsoft subscriptions after cancellation. See Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions from the referenced article for details.
- Request or confirm the refund
- After cancellation, the system may automatically apply a refund if the subscription and region are eligible.
- If the charge is not recognized or appears accidental, use the guidance under How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription to investigate the charge on the Manage your payments page and proceed with the refund flow from there.
- If purchased through a mobile app store
- If the subscription was purchased via Google Play or the Apple App Store, cancellation and refund must be requested from that store’s support, not from Microsoft.
If the charge is still unclear or the refund does not process automatically, contact Microsoft Support using the paths described in the referenced Q&A threads so an agent can review the billing on the account.
