Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Refunds or billing adjustments cannot be processed from this forum. To resolve the unexpected Microsoft 365 charge and confirm the refund that was promised, follow these steps based on where the subscription was purchased:
- If the subscription was purchased directly from Microsoft
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was charged.
- Locate the Microsoft 365 subscription and select Manage.
- If it still shows as active, select Cancel (or Upgrade or Cancel) and follow the on-screen steps. Cancellation is required to check refund eligibility.
- If the subscription shows Turn on recurring billing instead of Manage, it is already set to expire and will not renew again.
- To review refund options and eligibility, use the guidance in How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription and, if needed, contact Microsoft Support from that page.
- Not all cancellations result in a refund.
- In some countries (for example Canada, Israel, Korea, Turkey, Denmark, Finland, Germany for certain purchases, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal), prorated refunds may apply depending on subscription length.
- If the subscription was purchased through a third party (such as Best Buy, Amazon, Apple, or Google Play)
- Microsoft cannot cancel or refund subscriptions purchased through a third-party retailer.
- Contact the retailer’s customer support (for example, Best Buy or the store where the subscription was originally purchased) to manage recurring billing and request a refund, because the payment was made to them, not to Microsoft.
- If the charge is not recognized or appears fraudulent
- Review the charge on the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard to confirm which subscription and account it belongs to.
- If the charge still cannot be identified or is clearly unauthorized, contact Microsoft Support via the Contact Microsoft Support link and also work with the bank or card issuer to dispute the transaction if necessary.
If the refund that was promised (within 3–5 business days) has not appeared after that time, sign in to the Microsoft account used for the purchase, confirm the subscription status and refund eligibility as above, and then contact Microsoft Support directly with the order details so they can review the transaction.
