The start date in individual plan is incorrect on portfolio view

The start date of my plans, within a portfolio, are showing as when they were uploaded. I need these to show the actual plan start date but have been unable to change these.

The plan is showing the correct start date, this just isn't pulling through to the portfolio view.

Hi Rebecca J,

Thank you for posting your question on the Microsoft Q&A forum.

Based on your description, the issue seems to be a data mismatch between the individual plan details and the Portfolio view. You can try the following steps:

1/ Check the Project start date

  • Open your project in Microsoft Project and go to the Project tab on the ribbon.
  • Click Project Information
  • In the window that appears, review the following fields:
    • Start Date
    • Finish Date
    • Schedule From
    • If the Start Date does not match the actual project start, update it to the correct date and click OK.
      • User's image

2/ Recalculate the schedule

After closing the window:

  • Go to the Project tab.
  • Click Calculate Project.
    • User's image

This ensures the project schedule aligns with the updated start date.

3/ Verify the Project summary task start date

Portfolio views may use the Project Summary Task to determine the overall project start.

  • Go to the Gantt Chart Format tab.
  • Check Project Summary Task.
    • User's image

This will display a Row 0 above that shows the overall project start and finish dates. Please confirm that the Start Date in Row 0 matches the expected project start date.

After these steps, you may also try publishing the project and refreshing the portfolio view to ensure the latest schedule data is reflected.

I hope this information helps. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to let me know.

In Planner portfolios, the Start date shown for each plan row is a read-only field that is pulled from the underlying premium plan and cannot be edited in the portfolio itself. Portfolios only support premium plans and surface key attributes (including Start date and Finish date) as view-only metadata.

    Because of this:

    • The Start date in the portfolio view cannot be directly changed there.
    • To correct it, adjust the project’s actual start date in the underlying premium plan or Project for the web schedule that the plan is based on.
    • After the plan’s true start date is corrected at source, the scheduled portfolio sync/flow will update the portfolio row so that the Start date reflects the plan’s actual start date instead of the upload date.

If the plan already shows the correct start date but the portfolio still shows the upload date, wait for the scheduled sync to run or disconnect/reconnect the plan to the portfolio so the key attributes refresh.
