Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Check the subscription status and billing details to confirm whether the yearly subscription is still active or has actually ended early:
- Go to the Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to purchase the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Under Subscriptions, check:
- Whether the subscription shows Active, Expires on [date], or Canceled/Expired.
- The next charge date and billing frequency (monthly vs yearly).
- If the subscription shows as expired or canceled much earlier than expected, select Manage next to the subscription to see details such as:
- Whether recurring billing was turned off (so it ended on its term date).
- Whether the subscription was actually a monthly plan rather than yearly.
If the subscription is expired or disabled but should still be active based on what was paid, contact Microsoft Support via the account portal to review the billing and correct the subscription status or request a refund if appropriate.
Also be aware of the lifecycle behavior:
- When a Microsoft 365 subscription ends, it goes through Active → Expired → Disabled → Deleted.
- During Expired, users still have normal access; during Disabled, users lose access but admins can still access data for a period.
Verifying the exact status and dates on the Services & subscriptions page is the key first step to understanding why access stopped after a month.
