Using Outlook for Android for personal email and calendar management
Because sign-in works on the computer but not on the Android phone or Kindle Fire, the issue is almost certainly with the Outlook apps/devices, not the account or password itself.
Try these steps in order:
- Update the Outlook app
- On the Android phone and Kindle Fire, make sure the Outlook (or mail) app is updated to the latest version. Older versions can start repeatedly prompting for passwords when security standards change.
- For Outlook mobile, you can get the latest version from the store or via the link in the article: download the latest version.
- Remove and re-add the email account on each device
- On the phone and Kindle Fire, open Outlook (or the mail app using the Outlook account).
- Go to Settings.
- Select the affected Outlook/Microsoft account.
- Choose Delete Account or Remove account from this device.
- Close the app completely.
- Open Outlook again and add the account back using the new password. This is the recommended fix in multiple Outlook mobile scenarios (including after alias or password changes) and forces the app to refresh all settings with the correct credentials.
- If still prompted repeatedly for password or CAPTCHA
- Confirm that sign-in to the same account still works in a browser on the phone/Kindle (via outlook.com). If it fails there too, use the Microsoft sign-in helper or password reset tools:
- If the account is blocked or rate-limited
- If too many attempts were made from the phone/Kindle, the account might temporarily block sign-in from those devices.
- Stop trying to sign in for at least 24 hours from those devices, then try again with the correct password.
- If you see messages about the account being blocked, follow the unblock steps in the Outlook.com help (linked from the Android help article under How do I unblock my account?).
- As a last resort
- If none of the above works and the account is a Microsoft personal account, use the account recovery form and guidance from the Q&A articles in the context to regain access and then re-add the account to Outlook mobile.
