For a Surface Go that won’t charge or power on, use these steps in order:
- Disconnect all accessories
- Remove USB drives, SD cards, USB accessories, external monitors, Type Cover, and Surface Dock.
- Try turning on the Surface again.
- Verify the charger and power
- Plug in the original Surface power supply that was designed for the device.
- Charge for at least 15 minutes, then close and reopen the lid and press the power button.
- Check the LED on the Surface Connect charger:
- If it is blinking, flashing, or off, follow the power-supply troubleshooting: disconnect from Surface and wall, remove USB accessories, wait at least 10 seconds to reset, clean the connector with a soft, dry, lint‑free cloth, then reconnect.
- Try flipping the Surface Connect plug 180 degrees and reconnecting.
- Try a different wall outlet, surge protector, or power strip.
- If available, try another Surface power supply or a USB‑C PD charger (if the device has USB‑C). If those work, the original power supply likely needs service; if none work, the Surface itself may need service.
- If the LED is solid but it still won’t start
- If the power connector light is solid white but the device does not turn on, follow the “won’t turn on” steps:
- Ensure it has charged at least 15 minutes on the correct power supply.
- Then try waking it with the keyboard shortcut: Windows logo key + Ctrl + Shift + B (if a keyboard is connected).
- Force a shutdown and restart
- Select Start > Power > Shut down (if possible) and wait for it to fully power off.
- Then press and hold the power button for a full 20 seconds. Even if the logo appears earlier, keep holding until the logo appears a second time.
If, after these steps, the LED on the charger remains off or flashing and the Surface Go still will not power on, the device or power supply likely requires service. Use the support and service options for Surface to arrange repair or replacement.
