Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To cancel a Microsoft 365 consumer subscription and keep a free Microsoft account (with basic services only), follow these steps:
- Go to the Services & subscriptions page for Microsoft 365:
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to buy the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Find the Microsoft 365 subscription in the list and select Manage.
- If instead of Manage there is a Turn on recurring billing link, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not renew. In that case, no further action is required; the account will revert to the free level after expiry.
- On the subscription management page, select Cancel or Cancel subscription (it may appear as Upgrade or Cancel).
- On the cancel page:
- Review the Please review section and any notes about alternative plans.
- At the bottom, choose I don't want my subscription to confirm cancellation.
After cancellation of Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium:
- The account remains as a free Microsoft account.
- Cloud storage reverts to 5 GB total for OneDrive and Outlook.com attachments, and 15 GB for Outlook.com mailbox.
- If storage used is above the free quota:
- New files cannot be uploaded/edited/synced to OneDrive.
- Email cannot be sent or received in Outlook.com.
- OneDrive content may be deleted after 6 months.
If the subscription was purchased from a third-party retailer (for example, as a boxed product or via another store), cancellation must be done directly with that retailer.
