Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
The expired card can be removed only through the Microsoft account payment options page or with direct Microsoft support; it cannot be removed from here.
To remove the unknown, expired MasterCard from the Microsoft account:
- Sign in to the Microsoft account’s Payment options page.
- Locate the MasterCard ending in 1997.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm removal when prompted.
If the Remove option is not available, or if the card is tied to any active or past-due Microsoft subscription, support assistance is required. In that case:
- Sign in to the Services & subscriptions page for the Microsoft account and check for any active or past-due subscriptions that might still be associated with that card.
- If a subscription is past due, select Pay now, then either update the payment method or add a new one, and complete payment so the old card can be detached.
- After ensuring no active or past-due subscriptions depend on that card, return to Payment options and remove the card.
- If the card still cannot be removed, contact Microsoft Customer Service/Billing Support so an agent can review the account and remove the card on the backend if appropriate.
If the card is truly not recognized, also contact the bank or card issuer to confirm that the card is not active and to check for any unauthorized use.
