Copilot being available in Word and Excel but not in Outlook usually indicates an Outlook‑specific configuration, licensing propagation delay, or privacy setting issue.
Use these checks and fixes in order:
- Confirm the account in Outlook has a Copilot license
- In Outlook, make sure the primary account shown is the same work/school or Microsoft account that has the Copilot license.
- For home users, the account must have Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, or Copilot Pro.
- For business users, the account must have one of: Microsoft 365 Business Basic, Business Standard, Business Premium, E3, E5, F1, or F3, plus a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
- If Outlook is currently signed into a different account than the one used in Word/Excel, add or switch to the licensed account.
- Refresh the Microsoft 365 license
- In any Microsoft 365 app (Word, Excel, or Outlook):
- Go to File > Account.
- Select Update License.
- Close all Office apps, then reopen Outlook and check for the Copilot button.
- In any Microsoft 365 app (Word, Excel, or Outlook):
- Verify Outlook privacy settings (Connected Experiences)
- Copilot in Outlook requires Connected Experiences to be enabled.
- In Outlook, open File > Account (or Account Privacy / Manage Settings, depending on client).
- Ensure:
- Experiences that analyze your content is turned on.
- All connected experiences is turned on.
- If Outlook is managed by an organization, these settings may be controlled by the admin; contact the Microsoft 365 admin if they are locked or disabled.
- Check the update channel and build (business users on Windows)
- In Outlook, go to File > Account and look under Product Information.
- If Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel is shown, Copilot features are not available in that channel.
- Copilot requires Current Channel or Monthly Enterprise Channel. Ask the internal help desk or Microsoft 365 admin to move the device to one of these channels.
- Until the channel is changed, Copilot should still be available in Outlook on the web if the license is valid.
- Allow time for license propagation and conflicts to clear
- Newly assigned Copilot licenses can take time to propagate across all apps.
- If multiple accounts (personal plus work/school) are signed in, there can be licensing conflicts. Make sure the Copilot‑licensed account is the primary one in Outlook, then restart Outlook and Windows.
- If Copilot is still missing
- Follow the full checklist in the Copilot “missing/disabled” guidance (license, update channel, privacy, network requirements).
- If everything appears correct and Copilot is still not visible in Outlook, contact the Microsoft 365 admin (for work/school) or Microsoft Support (for home users) and reference that Copilot is present in Word/Excel but missing in Outlook.
