To resolve a “subscription expired” or similar message after paying, follow these steps in order:

    1. Confirm the subscription is active
      1. Close all Office apps.
      2. Go to the Microsoft account Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
      3. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to purchase/renew the subscription.
      4. Under the Microsoft 365 heading, check the status:
        • If it shows Expired or Suspended, complete the renewal using the steps in Renew Microsoft 365.
        • If it shows Active, proceed to the next steps.
    2. If a product key or retail card was used
      • If the subscription was bought as a physical box or card, or via an email with a product key, the subscription does not start until the key is redeemed.
      • Redeem the key at the page described in Where to enter your Office product key, then reopen Office apps.
    3. Check for “Account Notice” or “subscription problem” messages in Office apps
      • If a yellow bar appears saying "ACCOUNT NOTICE. We've run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription", this usually indicates a payment or activation issue.
      • After confirming the subscription is active, close all Office apps and reopen them while signed in with the same Microsoft account used on the Services & subscriptions page.
    4. Make sure payment and renewal actually completed
      • On the Services & subscriptions page, verify:
        • The subscription shows Has recurring billing or a future Expires on [date].
        • If the expiration date is not correct, follow Find out when your subscription expires and, if needed, contact support.
    5. If the subscription is active but Office still shows expired
      • Sign out of all Office apps on the device, then sign back in with the correct Microsoft account.
      • Ensure the device is connected to the internet so the apps can re-validate the subscription.
      • If the apps remain in reduced functionality or still show expired after these steps, contact Microsoft Support.
    6. Contact Microsoft Support for direct assistance
      • For Microsoft 365 Family or Personal billing/activation issues, use the Contact support options described in the articles below to chat with or request a call from a support agent. They can:
        • Verify the payment on the account.
        • Correct subscription status if it was renewed but not reflected.
        • Help if there are problems installing or activating the apps after renewal.
