I tried to login to my Microsoft Authenticator but to no avail. 1. Cannot get approval for Approve a request using my Microsoft app. 2. Can't receive any verification code from my mobile app and 3. The presented email address is NOT mine (in****@gmail.com). I believe this email took control my account.

Based on the symptoms, the account is effectively locked behind verification methods that are not accessible and show an unrecognized email address. Direct recovery or code bypass is not possible through Authenticator alone; recovery must go through Microsoft’s account and support flows.

Take these steps depending on the type of account:

    1. If this is a personal Microsoft account (Outlook/Hotmail/Live)
    • Use the account recovery/sign-in helper flow to try to regain access and correct security info: use the Sign-in helper and, if needed, the recover your account option referenced from the verification-code troubleshooting article.
    • If the security info (phone/email) shown is not recognized and recovery fails, follow the guidance under “Need more help?” to contact Microsoft Support:
      • Go to Contact Microsoft Support, describe that the account shows an unknown email as security info and that Authenticator and codes are not available.
      • Support agents cannot send verification codes or change account details directly, but they can guide through supported recovery options.
    1. If this is a work or school (Microsoft 365/Entra ID) account
    • If there is an organization admin:
      • Ask the admin to reset MFA and authentication methods in Microsoft Entra Admin Center (Users → your user → Authentication methods → Require re-register multifactor authentication). This forces a fresh MFA setup and breaks the loop with the old Authenticator.
    • If this is the only admin account on the tenant:
      • Contact Microsoft’s Data Protection team via the regional Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support line as described in the Q&A references:
        • When the IVR asks what the problem is, answer “Authenticator”.
        • Product: “Office 365 for business”; account type: “company”; confirm being the only admin.
        • Ask to create a service request and route it to the Data Protection team to recover the tenant admin account and reset MFA.
      • As an alternative if reaching an agent is difficult, create a temporary trial tenant (new Microsoft 365 tenant), then from that new tenant’s Admin Center open a support ticket explaining that access is needed to a different, existing tenant where the admin is locked out and MFA must be reset.
    1. Regarding the unknown email (in****@gmail.com)
    • When an unrecognized email appears as security info, the official guidance is to:
      • Verify that the correct sign-in address and domain are being used.
      • If the sign-in address is correct but the security info is not recognized, use the account recovery flow referenced in the verification-code troubleshooting article. If recovery fails, support cannot override verification but can advise on next steps.
    • Do not approve any prompts or respond to any codes that were not requested. If someone else is trying to access the account, without the correct response or code the account remains protected.
    1. If verification codes are not arriving
    • Avoid repeated or excessive code requests, which can cause temporary blocking of code delivery.
    • Ensure the phone number is a mobile number (not VOIP) and that SMS from unknown numbers are not blocked.
    • Check junk/spam folders for messages from @accountprotection.microsoft.com and mark as trusted.
    • If still not receiving codes, the official guidance is to choose another method or wait until access to the listed phone/email is possible; support agents are not allowed to send codes or change security info directly.

If none of the above paths work and there is no recognized recovery email/phone, the only supported escalation for a business/tenant admin account is through the Data Protection team via Microsoft Support as outlined in the Q&A references.
