Recovering a 10+ year old outlook password.

My Dad uses his email exclusively through the outlook app on his PC and due to this hasn't actually logged into his email for the last 10 years. As of recently the app has suddenly asked for a sign in. I have been trying to use the account recovery system but there isn't enough information to validate my request. He doesn't really send emails, only receives them, there is only a long defunct Xbox 360 account tied to the email and he doesn't believe he has ever used a credit card with the account. The email I am using as a contact to recover has his email listed as the recovery email... Is there any hope to recover the email account or is it lost?

Recovering a long-dormant Outlook account can be challenging, especially if there is limited information available for verification. Here are some steps you can take to try to recover the account:

    1. Use the Account Recovery Form: Go to the Microsoft account recovery page at https://account.live.com/acsr. Make sure to provide as much information as possible, even if it's limited. Include details like any old passwords, the Xbox 360 account information, and any other relevant data that might help verify ownership.
    2. Check Recovery Options: Since the recovery email is the same as the account in question, ensure that you are using the correct recovery options. If there are any other recovery methods linked to the account (like a phone number), try those as well.
    3. Wait for Lockout Period: If you've attempted multiple recovery options and faced issues, Microsoft may temporarily lock the account. Waiting for about 24 hours before trying again can sometimes help.
    4. Contact Microsoft Support: If the recovery form does not yield results, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support directly. You can explain the situation and see if they can provide any assistance. You might need to create a new account to contact support if you cannot access the old one.
    5. Review Security Info: If you can access the account even briefly, check the security info for any unfamiliar recovery options that can be removed or updated.

Unfortunately, if none of these methods work and there is no way to verify ownership, it may be difficult to recover the account. However, following these steps gives you the best chance of regaining access.
