Exactly the same thing happening to me, it defaults back to restricted settings regardless of whether I change them through my console, app, or Microsoft account. Tried everything. If you find a solution please say

Verified my age last night. Still can’t access certain games and still can’t use discord because of my privacy settings. changed them and they won’t even save.

verified my age, can’t access discord due to privacy settings, can’t access my games, and when i change privacy settings it reverts to the restricted settings, fix this asap.

Im having the same problem since 9pm last night I verified my age and now I cant play certain things on certain games and when I try and change the settings to alow me it just puts it back to the original settings I called up xbox support and tried to explain whats happening and he wasnt any help

I have this glitch and I've tried everything to factory reset, reset account, reset internet and other stuff but nothing works and its annoying cause there's a new strategy game out on roblox but i can't play it. I've had this glitch for 2 days and yes i did age thing and no im not in a family group thing. I've tried talking to xbox support but got no info about fixing this. Xbox please fix this glitch i just wanna play.

Mine has been stuck like this for three days now. I cannot change my settings despite verifying, and i can’t play certain games or see anyone messaging either. This needs fixed as soon as possible, i’ve troubleshooted and tried every possible way so all i can do is wait for the servers to be fixed.

I don’t understand what is going on! I am still having the exact same problem since yesterday. I tried for 8 hours to fix this. Been on forums, tried to get help from Xbox which was useless, the ai just kept telling me the same info. I’ve hard reset, removed my account. There is no family settings here and I do not have a child. This is so frustrating, I want to play with other people outside of my Xbox friends.

has anyone had any luck?

Same issue as above comment. OG account, over 10 yrs old. Verified age with picture, all accounts working but this one.

removed, re-added, hard reset, waiting. None of this has worked. I will try via web but doubt it

UPDATE: I had to contact a support agent. Basically I will be hearing back in 24-48 hours, my case had to be escalated because there is nothing on my end or the agents end that we could do to update and keep my settings.

if you’re having the same issue you will most likely have to contact an agent. Go through all the steps with them, which for me basically confirmed that the problem wasn’t on our end, so then it can be escalated higher and hopefully solved.

I’ll try to remember to return within 3 days to confirm is my account was fixed.

I also tried the whole online, private browser reset it there. Nope. Tried it on phone, computer. On WiFi off WiFi. I also tried a false age reset.

i have done literally everything.

I am now in the middle of setting up a new Microsoft account, and adding my existing account to a family ffs! It shouldn’t have to be this difficult.

I couldn’t find a number to contact an agent anywhere. Do you have a number or website where you got it from. It’s my last resort before I throw the machine out the window.

Hey there James, so I just typed in Xbox Support and on the MS website you can chat to an AI help bot but I asked “can I speak to a real person?” It asked for my problem and then connected to me a real MS agent.

idk if I can post links here but on my phone rn I just typed in Xbox support and the top link is “Xbox - get more help” and the first thing on that page is the request a chat option.

Update: I haven’t got a email yet, I assume I’ll be getting one on Monday, I’m not sure if they work through weekends.

I’ll come back here to regularly update.

Im having the exact same problem.

All my settings are on "friends only". When i change them to "Everyone", they just revert back to friends only.

If i try switching my privacy profile to "Adult" instead of "custom" (just as a test)... I get an error message saying something like "there is a problem right now" and it reverts back to custom.

I can check my age verification status in my account online and it says (✅ Verified).

Its only on my profile. My friends privacy settings work just fine.

Whats the fix?

The glitch on Xbox is that it is reverting your account to a child’s account. It’s needs the above fix to alter it

I tried the family organiser method but when I try to change my main accounts privacy settings it’s showing the same error message. I just want to communicate with my teammates why’s this so hard 🥲

finally found a solution that worked!

sign out of your xbox/xbox app

on your microsoft account change your birthdate so you’re under 18, then change it back to the correct date

it will ask you to re verify your age when you sign back in, i’d recommend finding the original email with the yoti link as the app was glitchy and the camera wouldn’t work for me

after you’ve verified, log back in on your xbox and it should automatically change your privacy settings to adult and all should be back to normal!

Same problem here 4 days now trying to get this sorted. age verified account, setting after setting, round and round in a circle with the family app privacy settings. every xbox setting under the sun both console and desktop and app, log in, log in, log in, its just an utter mess for something that should be so simple. honestly it beyond frustrating at this point all i want to do is talk to my friends. impossible to talk or chat with a human. when did it stop being fun eh? am so done with this.

Have this same issue, My account is age verified so stupid you actually got to do that, Can't update settings it just refreshes back to normal. Crazy to think if you are under 18 you can't use any ingame chat whatsoever and it probably wont let you play some games. Keir stalin gotta go ruining gaming, ruining england, ruining privacy.

I added my daughter profile to Family as an 'organiser' on the PC in my Microsoft account. I left the family group and she re-added me as a 'member'. Then we logged both our profiles into the Xbox console and using my daughters account I edited my 'member' account's privacy settings. That should work, as an Organiser should be able to edit a members settings but they still didn't save. Has to be a glitch. We've tried EVERYTHING!

Guys I did get it sorted! Do not fret! I had to contact Xbox support via the speak with a gamer chat function, you escalate the case and they call you back! It’s a glitch in the system that reverts your profile to child.

you have to change settings on Microsoft and add a ghost lead family organiser (with a different email to your account), you then have to add your problem account to the family group and then you change Xbox settings. It’s a really crappy process but it did work eventually. Took me 6 days to get fixed

hey i have been trying to do the ghost lead family organizer fix but i cant figure out where to go to change the xbox settings once i have added the problem account to the family and when i open the xbox settings page on a different tab the issue still occurs. if anyone knows what im doing wrong please lmk.

I did this but it still didn't work. My account is glitched, it has to be. I've changed my emails, done family group way, changed my age etc, etc, etc but it still doesn't save. You can't verify your account once it's been verified once. Absolute nightmare. I can't connect with my Achievement trackers online cause my profile is private coz of the privacy settings

Hey Dan!!

you need to contact Xbox support and speak to someone and escalate the issue. They will call you and talk you through it. They need to reset it on their end. Nothing you will do will work. I know it seems like nothing will work but it will.

Hey JJ! My Xbox account is old, goes back to 2006 when the 360 came out. I left Xbox for PlayStation for 10 years. Just got an Xbox series S, changed my gamer tag and I wanted to carru on where I left off and I encountered this nightmare. My daughter's account is fine, she's in our family group, she has an adult one and her settings change fine, both on the same console so it has to be my account alone that's glitched. Who do you contact exactly coz it's just bots with the same old answers on Xbox chat. Thanks man

From doing a little bit of digging I think it’s a Xbox side issue and has to do with the UK age verification system I think and they currently trying to fix it.

It has nothing to do with age verification. It's a glitch on Microsoft's end and it seems like it's only affecting players on either xbox or pc. I had the similar issue but here what worked for me. It might or might not work for you but worth trying if you haven't.

Go to xbox.com, sign in and tap on your profile on the top right corner of your screen. Then next to 'xbox profile' tap the 3 dots that you see and select xbox settings. From here change all the settings to your desired settings and tap submit at the bottom of the screen. You might want to change settings for other platforms too just in case. Don't forget to sign out of xbox and sign back in for settings to take effect.

Do note that I had to wait 24 hours before I could play games again so yeah it can take time for settings to take effect. Good luck!

Yeah guys there’s no dedicated way to contact support like an email, like there used to be in the 360 and Xbox one days.

you can go to that AI chat bot since that is the only ‘help’ option and then request to speak to an agent. I did and all it asked me for was what my issue was so it could connect me to an agent.

I also had an option for a phone call but that option was greyed out for me, probably cos it was 4am when I did all this. But I was given the option to live chat or call, this was after I told the AI my issue and the AI was like ‘yeah I’ll connect you, how do you wanna do it’

I also have this issue. I am age-verified, but any changes made to the settings reset on refresh, despite the submit button telling me they have been updated. Attempting to reach any sort of support has left me at the mercy of AI that is unable to assist.
