If the battery report shows that battery at end of life, a third party shop MAY be able to replace the battery for you. Microsoft considers SB2 end of life and is no longer doing out of warranty exchanges for this device, unfortunately. SB2 is 9 years old. You may not want to throw money at this and think about purchasing a new device to replace it.

    Battery 1 = tablet/clipboard battery

    Battery 2 = base/keyboard battery

If Battery 2 is charging normally but Battery 1 stays at 0% / not charging, the problem is almost always hardware-related, not Windows.

Open Command Prompt as Admin and type:

powercfg /batteryreport hit the Enter key to check the battery health.

    Shut down

    Hold Volume Up + Power

    Enter UEFI

    Plug in charger and wait

If Battery 1 still doesn’t charge in UEFI, it is 100% hardware.

In that case you have to replace Battery 1.

If your Surface Book 2 battery 1 is not charging while battery 2 is functioning properly, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

    1. Check the Power Supply: Ensure that your power supply is functioning correctly. Sometimes, issues with the charger can affect battery charging.
    2. Update Drivers: Make sure that your device drivers, especially the battery drivers, are up to date. You can check for updates through Windows Update.
    3. Battery Calibration: Try calibrating the battery. Fully charge the device, then let it discharge completely before charging it again.
    4. Check for Windows Updates: Sometimes, updates can resolve underlying issues with battery management.
    5. Reset the Device: If the problem persists, consider performing a soft reset of your Surface Book 2.
    6. Contact Support: If none of these steps work, it may be necessary to contact Microsoft support for further assistance or consider a battery replacement if the device is out of warranty.
