When I get to the final step of the mail merge it says it cannot mail my document. I found an older thread with the same issue, but none of their solutions are working for me. I am using word Version 16.105.3 (26020123) on a MacBook Air using MacOS Tahoe version 26.2.

Hi MM55339

Thank you for reaching out to the Q&A Forum.

Based on the symptoms you described, and you are using Microsoft 365 on macOS, based on my research this issue is usually caused by the "New Outlook" interface. Here are some recommendations you can try, which I hope will be helpful.

Switch to "Legacy" Outlook

The current "New Outlook" for Mac design does not yet fully support the AppleScript automation required for Word to send emails. You must be using the "Legacy" version to mail merge.

You can try to switch to New Outlook; it will restart > try to finish the Mail Merge in Word again.

Check Default Mail Settings

Word requires Outlook to be set as the system default to execute the merge.

Open the native Apple Mail app (even if you don't use it) > Go to Mail > Settings (or Preferences). On the General tab, ensure Default email reader is set to Microsoft Outlook.

Additionally, please ensure that both Word and Outlook are signed in with the same Microsoft 365 account. Using different accounts may impact the functionality of features such as Mail Merge.

If the issue still persists after the recommended steps above, could you please share information about any older thread with the same issue, especially if none of their solutions have worked for you?

I hope this information proves helpful and I look forward to your response!

If you are experiencing issues with mail merge in Word on your Mac, it could be due to the version of Outlook you are using. The Mail Merge feature may not work properly if you have New Outlook set as your default mail client, as it is not fully MAPI-compliant. To resolve this, you can switch back to Classic Outlook, which supports the MAPI integration that Word relies on for sending mail-merged documents.

To switch back to Classic Outlook, look for a toggle at the top right corner of the Outlook application. Once you have done this, try the mail merge process again to see if it resolves the issue.

If you continue to face problems, consider checking for updates to your Office applications or consulting additional resources for troubleshooting mail merge issues specific to your version of Word and MacOS.

Outlook must be specified as your default email program... It really doesn't matter whether Classic or New. In Outlook there must be a valid email address.

If you need more info please indicate the exact steps you're taking as well as the specific wording of the error message [a screenshot of the notification would be best].
