Additional settings-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for Education
Hello @Katsepticeye,
Thank you for posting your valuable question on Microsoft Q&A forum.
For Microsoft 365 Education accounts, the profile card only displays limited information because most details, such as your name, email, role (student/teacher), and organization info, are controlled by your school’s IT department. This means you can’t freely add or edit fields like a full “About Me” bio.
However, you can still make your profile feel more personal. One simple way is to use Status Message in Teams. This shows up when people hover over your name or try to message you, and you can write a short intro about yourself there.
- Open Microsoft Teams.
- Click your profile picture in the top-right corner > Select Set status message.
- Type your custom message, this can be a short intro, your interests, or anything you want others to see.
- (Optional) Turn on Show when people message me if you want the message to pop up when someone contacts you.
- Choose how long the message should stay active.
- Click Done.
When you set a Status Message, other users will see it in these places:
1. When they hover over your name or profile picture
If someone points their mouse at your name in chat, teams, or a meeting participant list, your profile card pops up, and your status message appears on that card.
2. When they try to message or @mention you
If you enable “Show when people message me”, your status message will appear directly to them when they open a chat with you or @mention you.
3. On your profile card
Anyone who clicks your profile picture will see your status message along with your standard profile info (name, contact details, org role, etc.).
I hope this method works well for you. Please feel free to let me know if you need any further assistance. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful question.
