I am in the SharePoint admin center and need to change a site name. When I go to Active Sites, General, Edit site name, I get an error message "Site title update has failed."

These steps worked for me, HOWEVER, it does not address the primary issue of why updating a Site name does not work from within the SharePoint Admin Center. My UID is the owner of the Site where this failed. Updating the Site name through the "Edit SharePoint site name" interface in the SharePoint Admin Center failed with the error, "Site title update has failed".

I have performed this action on other Sites within the past 6 months from the SharePoint Admin Center and it worked. It does not work now. Is this related to the Microsoft 365 Outage that happened lastr week? If so, we should be informed of this.

Regardless of the reason, this functionality is an essential feature. in the SharePoint Admin Center and should work, without question or excuses.

    Thank you.

    Hi there,

i've the same problem: We create SharePoints with a PowerAutomate-Flow for customer projects.

After the SP is created with a Shortname (P123123 for example), it gets renamed over Microsoft Teams (via PowerAutomate) to something meaningfuller ("P123123 Project XYZ"). We do this, so that the SharePoint-eMailaddress is set to the project number.

    My Problem now is:

    • SharePoint gets created and successfully renamed (Created with P202xxx, renamed to "P202xxx_Betriebsbetreuung XXX"): User's image
    • As you can see, the "Site name (German)" is the old name. If i try to change it, i get the error "Site title update has failed"): User's image
    • Then i thought, maybe its a problem with the display language. My Microsoft-Account is set to "German" as display language. The SharePoint is created with the locatlization "German". The Multi-Language Module within the SharePoint is disabled. Also, the SharePoint is displayed in english with the correct Site name: User's image
    • If i check Microsoft Teams, the connected Team is listed with the correct name:

    User's image

I don't need the Multi-language module. I need one Site title, that's consistent over all languages. I don't know, why i can't change the "Site name (German)" from the SharePoint Admin.
