Microsoft Authenticator will not connect to my Microsoft account to to complete a two factor identification.

Microsoft Authenticator will not connect to my Microsoft account to to complete a two factor identification.

I can sign into my Microsoft account, but cannot make any changes to the account because I cannot complete the 2FA process with Authenticator or active email. I can enter a password, but cannot link my Microsoft account to Authenticator. I have one active email and one inactive (no access) email on my account. Microsoft will only send a code to the inactive account. I completed the account recovery form as directed by a chat agent which reset my password but allows no access to other security changes. Any thoughts on how I can make authenticator work.

Hi,

I’m unable to approve the sign-in request because Microsoft Authenticator is not set up on my phone.

Could you please reset my MFA and allow me to re-register the Authenticator app?

I fixed it my self using a really long and convaluted process

I spent about 16 hours over two days and can get no where. I have chatted with 2 support agents who advised completing the account recovery form. I did and it allowed me to reset my password but I still cannot get into my account to add my phone number or complete the MFA to gain access. The second agent said complete the form again. The other advise I got was to wait 30 days to see if my account unlocks. I used the authenticator yesterday to get into work software so the authenticator app works. I bought a new gaming pc computer and would like to set it up but I am afraid if I sign into Microsoft for Windows activation it will freeze up the new computer. If the computer activates can I link it to Xbox while the MS account is frozen? The last agent said everything is automated for security processes and nothing can be done. My concern is what do I do in 30 days if I cannot gain access and cannot activate my new computer? I can restart with a new Microsoft account but my current 20 year old xbox account will be lost forever. My xbox works and my credit card gets charged but I cannot access the account. I wish Microsoft had a better answer than wait and see for 30 days.
