I need help getting my Microsoft Authenticator app to work on my mobile device

My Microsoft Authenticator app states: Enter code displayed in the Microsoft Authenticator app to use the Microsoft Authenticator app. I can't get the code in the app since it is asking to input a code in the app before using the app.
I don't see how I can start using the app.
