A Microsoft app for iOS and Android devices that enables authentication with two-factor verification, phone sign-in, and code generation
Locked out of personal Microsoft account due to MFA verification loop
Hi,
I am seeking assistance with a personal Microsoft account that I have been completely locked out of for the past six days.
I have been a long-time Microsoft user (over 28 years, including Hotmail), and I am hoping someone can help escalate or review this issue, as I appear to be stuck with no available self-service recovery options.
Summary of the issue:
- I forgot my password and attempted to reset it from a Windows PC and via a browser.
- My account has two-factor authentication enabled using Microsoft Authenticator.
- During sign-in and password recovery, I am only presented with the following options:
- “Approve in Microsoft Authenticator app”
- “Use a verification code”
- Unfortunately, I cannot complete either option, as the Authenticator app is not accessible / not producing approvals or codes.
- Although my long-standing mobile number is associated with the account, selecting it for verification always results in the same message: “Try another verification method”, which loops repeatedly.
- “Approve in Microsoft Authenticator app”
Steps already taken:
- Multiple password reset attempts over several days
- Repeated use of “Try another verification method”
- Submission of the Microsoft Account Recovery Form (account.live.com/acsr)
The recovery form response indicated that because two-factor authentication is enabled, the request could not be processed. This appears to leave me with no remaining automated recovery path.
At this point:
- I cannot sign in
- I cannot reset my password
- I cannot access or reconfigure Microsoft Authenticator
- I cannot reach a support agent through the standard support flows, despite being issued a case/reference ID
Request:
I am requesting a manual review and reset of my MFA / security information, or escalation to the appropriate account protection team, so that I can verify ownership and regain access to my account.
This is not a setup or usage question, but a full account lockout caused by an MFA verification loop. I am happy to provide any verification details required through a secure process.
Thank you for your time and assistance.
