Install all Windows and Surface driver/firmware updates
- Windows Update: Install all Quality and Optional updates, especially the ones labeled Surface in Driver updates.
- Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates
- Then View optional updates and install everything Surface‑related.
- Surface app health check: Open the Surface app > Device information to confirm drivers/firmware are current. If they are not, follow the Download drivers and firmware for Surface - Microsoft Support guidance.
- If you use a Surface Dock or USB4/Thunderbolt dock:
- Confirm your dock is compatible with your specific Surface Laptop model and update its dock firmware.

Reinstall USB/USB4 controllers
- Navigate to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers and USB4™ Host Router (if present).

- Restart the laptop; Windows will re‑enumerate the controllers and ports.
