To create a new tenant and migrate virtual machines to the new tenant, follow these steps:
- Go to the Azure portal.
- From the Azure portal menu, select Microsoft Entra ID.
- Manage Tenants: Navigate to Entra ID > Overview > Manage tenants.
- Create Tenant: Click on Create to start the process of creating a new tenant. You will need to select the type of tenant you want to create (e.g., Microsoft Entra ID).
- Configure Tenant
- The tenant creation process can take up to 30 minutes.

Creating a new Microsoft Entra ID tenant and migrating resources such as virtual machines is not a direct “move” operation because Azure resources are tied to a specific tenant and subscription. Here’s what you need to consider:

- Microsoft 365, Entra Suite, and Intune Licenses These licenses are tenant-specific. You will need to assign them again in the new tenant after creating it.
- Azure Subscription and Virtual Machines
- Azure subscriptions are linked to a directory (tenant). You cannot simply migrate a VM between tenants.
- Options:
- Transfer the subscription to the new tenant (requires Global Admin in both tenants and billing agreement).
- Or create a new subscription under the new tenant and redeploy resources (VMs, networking, etc.).
- Migration Approach
- If transferring the subscription is possible, follow: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/role-based-access-control/transfer-subscription
- If redeploying:
- Export VM configuration or use Azure Site Recovery for migration.
- Recreate networking and associated resources in the new tenant.
