The important truth
- Office Home 2024 still requires a one-time sign-in to activate
- You do NOT need to stay signed in afterward
- Microsoft uses sign-in only to bind the license once, even for perpetual Office
There is no supported way to use Office 2024 on Windows 11 without activating it once.
One-time sign-in, then remove the account (recommended)
You can activate Office once, then completely disconnect it.
Steps:
On the sign-in screen, sign in once with any Microsoft account (it can be a throwaway account created just for activation)
Office activates and opens Word
Immediately remove the account from Office:
- Word → File → Account
- Under User Information → Sign out
- Under Connected Services → Remove account
Close Word
Reopen Word
Result:
Office stays activated
No Microsoft account attached
No syncing, no cloud features
Works fully offline
This is the only supported “offline” end state for Office 2024.
See if this helps. If you need further assistance just let me know.
