My outlook apps are not authenticating on Android and Mac. I have tried everything including removing and re-installing apps, deleting and reinstating accounts, but when I try to reinstate the account I get a soinning wheel with Authenticating in progress but then it just stops trying and doesn't work.

Hi,

This could be the reason:

Modern Authentication or MFA issues (Microsoft 365 accounts often require extra verification).

Corrupted app cache or credentials that persist even after reinstall.

Network or DNS conflicts blocking Microsoft servers.

Account security settings.

What You Can Try is:

Clear App Data Completely

On Android: Settings → Apps → Outlook → Storage → Clear Data.

On Mac: Remove Outlook and delete cached credentials from Keychain Access.

Check Account Security

If MFA is enabled, ensure you approve sign-in via Authenticator or SMS.

For older accounts, you may need an App Password check at http://account.microsoft.com/security .

Update Apps

Make sure Outlook is updated to the latest version on both Android and Mac.

Sign In via Web First

Log in to Outlook.com in a browser to confirm credentials work.

If prompted for extra verification, complete it before retrying the app.

Let me know how it goes, Happy to help!

If your Outlook apps on Android and Mac are not authenticating, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take:

    1. For Outlook on Mac: This issue may occur due to duplicate tokens in the keychain. To resolve this, you can delete any cached passwords and modern authentication tokens from your keychain. Follow these steps:
      • Quit Outlook and all other Office applications.
      • Open Keychain Access and search for items related to your Exchange account and delete them.
      • Restart Outlook, and you should be prompted to authenticate again.
      • Additionally, ensure that you have the latest version of Outlook installed.
    2. For Outlook on Android: If you are experiencing issues with authentication, verify that you are connected to the internet and that your account settings are correct. If you are using an Intune-managed app, ensure that the Company Portal app is installed and functioning properly. If Outlook has been offline for a long time, you may need to sign in again.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider filing an in-app support ticket for further assistance, especially if you are part of an organization that uses Microsoft 365.
