I purchased a one time Home Office 2024 license. But this month my computer crashed. There is no way of uninstalling. I bought a new laptop. How can I transfer license to new laptop. It is more expensive to repair it than buy a new laptop.

To transfer your Home Office 2024 license to a new laptop, you typically need to follow these steps:

  1. Locate Your Product Key: If you purchased Office 2024, you should have received a product key. This key is essential for activating Office on your new laptop.
  2. Install Office on the New Laptop: Download and install Office 2024 on your new laptop. You can do this by visiting the official Microsoft Office website and signing in with the Microsoft account associated with your Office purchase.
  3. Activate Office: During the installation process, you will be prompted to enter your product key. Input the key to activate your Office 2024 on the new device.
  4. Uninstall from Old Device (if possible): Since your old computer crashed and you cannot uninstall Office, you may not be able to do this step. However, Microsoft allows you to activate your Office license on a new device even if the previous one is not uninstalled, as long as you are within the licensing terms.

If you encounter any issues during activation, you may need to contact Microsoft support for assistance with your specific situation.

old computer dead so I cant uninstall office. I have searched the support pages and phoned microsoft but get AI.

I want to talk to a human to help sort this issue out because that is why I paid for it, for support to talk to somebody and not a machine that can't understand the issue.

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. To add to the above, as the installation is still tied to the current device being read on Microsoft's end, you will need to unlink the previous installation and you can do that by going through the support team at https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/ and then click on Office and then click Get home support and then type in Transfer license and then click on the blue Sign in to contact support button and login with the account that you used to purchase Office and once done you can follow the below steps.

    • Log in to this link https://account.microsoft.com/services.
    • Check if you can see Office 2024 on the Subscriptions page, to confirm that it is linked to your Microsoft account.
    • As Office 2024 can only be installed on one device at a time, if it is still installed or activated on the other device that you have returned then this will need to be uninstalled before transferring it to the new one.
    • After that, you can download, install, and activate Office 2024 on your new device.
    • There is also a possibility that the phone activation at the bottom of the installation screen might appear and if it is there then you may proceed from there as instructed.
