Stuck in Parental Consent Loop – Can’t access any Microsoft account pages to fix it

Hello,

I’m having a serious issue with my Microsoft account and Minecraft. Every time I try to sign in anywhere — whether it’s Minecraft, account settings, or family settings — the system says:

“Parent or guardian consent is required for this account.”

It keeps looping back to the same page, so I can’t go anywhere or finish the setup.

Here’s what’s happening:

I’m not sure what date of birth I originally set on my Microsoft account.

I also don’t know if I’m currently in a Microsoft Family group or not.

I tried following the “Learn more about parental consent” link to the Managing Parental Consent page, but every time I try to sign in, it just redirects me back to the consent page again.

I also tried opening the direct page to change my birth date, but it gives this error:

“This page isn’t working right now – HTTP ERROR 401.”

I’ve already cleared cache/cookies, used incognito mode, and tried different browsers and devices, but nothing helps.

Basically, the parental consent screen appears every single time I try to log in anywhere that requires Microsoft sign-in, so I can’t access any part of my account — not profile settings, not family settings, not even the support or verification pages.

It looks like the Microsoft account or profile servers (account.live.com / family.microsoft.com) might be down or bugged, because the consent system keeps looping without letting me reach any settings page.

Could someone from Microsoft please help me remove this parental consent block or reset my account age so I can log in normally again?

    I understand you’re stuck in a parental consent loop and can’t access any Microsoft account pages to fix it.

    Based on your description, here are some steps you can try:

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/profile and check the date of birth. If it’s incorrect, you’ll need to update it.
    2. Use https://account.live.com → Your info → Edit date of birth. If you still see HTTP 401, try from a different network or device.
    3. Sign in at https://family.microsoft.com. If you’re in a family group, the organizer must approve parental consent or remove you from the group. If you’re not in a family group, you can create one and add a parent account to approve.
    4. You’ve done this already but also try a different browser or mobile device. Or use private/incognito mode.
    5. Submit an account recovery request at https://account.live.com/acsr and mention the parental consent loop issue.

    Hi there @wasin janprong and @Alex_T / @alex_t

    I have solved the problem.

    1. When you are at that initial looped page where it asks you to select if you are a parent or child, you need to select that you are a child.
    2. Click on the second option it gives you, which will prompt you to send an email to your parent for them to approve sign in.
    3. Send an email to anyone with a Microsoft account, which they will then have to approve you as a child in their family account.
    4. Once approved, they can give consent and you will then be able to sign in to your MS account again.

    All Solutions do NOT work and I can't see a place to recover/explain the account to the helpdesk.

    This LOOP is so silly that is now going to cost my Daughter a chance at her auditions

    I am having the same problem. I have been an Apple user for 20 years and am realizing maybe I should stick with it. I'm trying to set up a new laptop for my child. I had to set up a Microsoft account. The first challenge was that apparently I used my email to do this 20 years ago. Finally seemed to get through that hurdle.

    Next is the issue above. As I am creating a profile for myself, the prompt said something like "If this is your child's laptop, use their birthdate." So I did.. So now I'm somehow both the "Organizer" and/or "Parent" and also a Child. So I literally cannot do anything to get out of the loop.

    I'm not a tech wiz but I'm not tech illiterate by any stretch of the imagination. This is such a miserable first experience back with Microsoft. If I didn't have an important reason to do this, I'd give up on Microsoft and never come back. Please help.

    Hello! I was also stuck with this issue, and I managed to solve it.

    • The reason why you get parental consent: It is because your Microsoft account is underage, this was what happened to me and I have no idea how and why my birthdate was entered incorrectly.
    • So, the Idea to get out from this parental consent is: Update your Microsoft account birthdate

    How to update Microsoft account birthdate (This is what I've done):

    1. Login with your Microsoft Account (they will ask about parental consent)
    2. Select I'm a parent or Guardian -> this step will lead you to the Sign In menu, but this time please sign in with different Microsoft Account and acting as a parent
    3. When you successfully Sign In, then Give consent by selecting Yes, I agree at the bottom of the consent form.
    4. Then go to: account.live.com/mykids.asp to update your Child's account birthdate (your main account)
