Why is my authenticator giving 8-digit codes instead of 6-digit?

I've been invited to view secure files and asked to insert the 6-digit authenticator code, however when I open my Microsoft Authenticator app it only gives me 8-digit codes. I recently got a new iPhone, so could this be causing some issues?

I have seen a couple of users report this issue. I am wondering if you could try to backup and rergister the authenticator to fix this occurence.
Re‑register Microsoft Authenticator for the correct work/school account using the organization’s security registration page so it generates the required 6‑digit code
