some of the subscription were created back when the ea.portal.com was active.

As you mentioned you are trying to rename the department name and enrollment name so that when you export Cost Analysis data from Azure, those fields reflect the correct and updated information. Some subscriptions were created years ago under the old EA portal (ea.azure.com), and you need to know how to make the updates now.

Cost Analysis exports pull metadata from the billing account structure. That means the export cannot be edited directly; it always shows whatever is defined in your EA enrollment and department settings. If the EA portal is retired for your tenant, those same settings appear under the Billing Account (Enterprise Agreement) blade in the Azure portal.

To change Department Name: The department name can be changed by a user with Enterprise Administrator or Department Administrator permissions.

• Sign in to the Azure Portal.
• Navigate to Cost Management + Billing.
• On the left-hand menu, select Billing scopes, and then choose your Billing account (which is your EA enrollment).
• In the left-hand menu, select Departments.
• Select the department you want to rename.
• Look for the "Edit" or "Properties" option. You should be able to update the department name from here.

If you are a Department Administrator, you can only change the name of the department you manage. An Enterprise Administrator can change any department name.

To Change the Enrollment Name: Changing the top-level Enrollment Name is more complex and has higher administrative requirements. This is a change to the core billing account itself.

The ability to directly change the enrollment name in the Azure portal is limited. It's often set at the time the agreement is created. If the option isn't available in the UI, you will need to contact Azure support to request this change.

Check for Permissions: Only an Enterprise Administrator has the authority to request a name change for the entire enrollment.

If you do not have permission, you can submit a support request

• In the Azure portal, navigate to Help + support.
• Select New support request.
• For the Issue type, select "Billing and Subscription management".
• In the problem description, clearly state that you are the Enterprise Administrator for your enrollment and wish to change the enrollment name. Provide the current name and the new name you want to use.
• Support will verify your authority and perform the change.
