How do connect to Microsoft Azure support so that they do not charge my credit card?

Hello Moses Kasirye,

Your organization’s Azure account was suspended due to non-payment, yet you’ve received a $2,000 Azure grant. You’re trying to figure out how to connect the grant to your billing so that the grant covers costs and reactivates your account but it’s unclear how to apply it.

Azure grants are typically issued as sponsorship subscriptions or special billing accounts. These grants are not automatically applied to existing subscriptions. You must activate the grant and move resources to the grant-backed subscription. Suspended subscriptions require payment or migration to resume.

Check Your Sponsorship Email and Activate the Grant

• Look for an email from Microsoft (subject like “Your Microsoft Azure Sponsorship Offer”).
• It will contain either a link to accept the sponsorship, or a sponsorship subscription ID / enrollment code.

Create a New Subscription (if needed)

• In the Azure Portal, go to Cost Management + Billing > Billing accounts.
• Create a new subscription under the grant billing account.

Move Resources to the Grant Subscription

• Use Resource Move in Azure Portal or Azure Resource Manager (ARM) to transfer VMs, storage, etc.
• This ensures future billing is covered by the grant.

Reactivate Suspended Subscription (Optional)

• If you want to keep the original subscription:
• Add a valid payment method.
• Pay the outstanding balance.
• Then consolidate billing or migrate resources.

Azure grants do not cover previous unpaid bills. To unlock the old subscription, you must:

• Pay the outstanding balance from the Invoices blade in the old subscription.
• Or, if you don’t want to pay/continue with that subscription, just move resources to the Sponsorship subscription and leave the old one cancelled (but unpaid invoices may still need to be settled to prevent collection issues).

If you need any further assistance, you can contact Microsoft Support:
