You need to leave your work organization Before we can take any action, you must leave your work organization. After you cancel your active subscriptions, you should return to this page to complete the account closure process.

If you're seeing the message "You need to leave your work organization" when trying to close your Microsoft account, here's how to proceed:

1. Go to the organizations page

• Visit https://myaccount.microsoft.com/organizations
• Sign in with the account you're trying to close.

2. Review your organizations

You'll see a list of organizations you're part of:

• Home Organization: You cannot leave this one yourself.
• Other Organizations: You can leave these if allowed by the organization

3. Leave the organization

• Click “Leave” next to any organization you want to exit.
• Confirm by clicking “Leave” in the popup window.
• For your reference: Leave an organization where you have a guest account

4. If you can’t leave

If the Leave button is missing or you get an error:

• The organization may not allow users to leave on their own.
• You’ll need to contact the admin or privacy contact of that organization to request removal.

Once you've left all organizations and canceled any active subscriptions, you can return to the account closure page to complete the process.
