I got a new phone and my Authenticator app no longer displays a code that I type in.

1. Check Your Authenticator App

• Open the Authenticator app on your new phone.
• Do you see your accounts listed with 6-digit codes underneath?
  • If yes: The codes should work for sign-in.
    • If no: The accounts may not have been restored properly.

2. Re-add Your Accounts for Code Generation

• For most services (Microsoft, Google, etc.), you need to re-register your new phone as a 2FA device.
• On your computer:
  • Go to the security settings of the account you’re trying to sign in to (e.g., Microsoft Account Security, Google Account Security).
    • Find the section for “Two-factor authentication” or “Authenticator app.”
      • Choose to set up a new authenticator app.
        • Scan the QR code using your new phone’s Authenticator app.
          • This will add the account and show the 6-digit code.

3. If You Can’t Scan a QR Code (e.g., signing in on your phone)

• Most services offer a “Can’t scan QR code?” or “Enter code manually” option.
• This will give you a secret key you can type into the Authenticator app instead of scanning.
