The option to upload images in Microsoft Sway is unavailable, as the upload feature appears grayed out. Additionally, the application is experiencing significant delays in opening. What steps can be taken to resolve these issues?

    Hi @Chelsey Henderson

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

To help me better understand the situation and guide you to a solution, could you provide a few details:

    • Are you using a personal (******@hotmail.com, ******@outlook.com) account or business Microsoft account?
    • Is the issue happening on all Sways or just one specific file?
    • Have you tried uploading from OneDrive instead of your device?
    • Could you please share a screenshot of the issue you’re experiencing?
    • Are you accessing Sway via a browser or the desktop/mobile app? If it's on a browser, have you tried clearing your browser cache or using incognito/private mode?
    • Can you check if your Office apps are running the most current version?

In the meantime, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    1/ Image upload workarounds

Upload images to OneDrive first, then insert them into Sway.

    • Reduce image size and try reuploading it.

    2/ Repair Sway

In the search box on the taskbar, enter control panel and select Control Panel from the results.

    • Select Programs > Programs and Features.

    User's image

    • Right-click the program > select Repair, or if that’s not available, select Change. Then follow the directions on the screen.
    • Note that you need have admin permission to repair if your device is managed by organization.

3/ Switch to the web version

If the desktop app is unstable, use https://sway.cloud.microsoft/ via a browser. It’s often more reliable and receives updates faster.

    4/ Uninstall and reinstall Office:

You can find guidance for uninstalling and reinstalling Office here:

Download, install, or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on a PC or Mac - Microsoft Support
