Is this scam? Complete a purchase by May 11, 2025 to keep your account active (SOLVED)

Hello,

I am a small business owner, with just an Microsoft 365 Business Basic licence.

I suddenly got an email, apparently from Microsoft that I dont understand at all

Its says:

You are receiving this email because your associated Microsoft Entra ID tenant (tenant ID XXX ) has been inactive for more than 200 days.
Required action: To continue using your tenant, make a purchase before May 11, 2025. If you don’t make a purchase before this date, your next purchase with Microsoft will require a new Microsoft Entra ID tenant to continue using Microsoft services.

I dont know what an Entra Tenant ID is? What purchase should I make?

My MS 365 licence ends only May 26 2025 and will be renewed of course.

Is that what this email is about?

    Hi everyone,

    I chose to ignore the email and was prepared to demand ALL of my money back should office 365 be impacted. So far it doesn't seem to have been.

    Microsoft however do need to develop their sub par communication skills. Including but not limited to replying to the many comments here. Might go do a review shortly!

    The original email may as well have been written in some long extinct language given it's lack of clarity. All the hallmarks of a scam. It may have been something worse though, Microsoft using scare tactics to generate sales!

    I'll leave it up to Microsoft to address that, including evidence that is not their business model.

    I admire your verve and agree with your sentiment; but fear I have too much data tied up in the Microsoft suite to risk losing it all.

    Interesting that nothing has happened to yours, yet.

    I'm going to try and contact Customer Services anyway and, in preparation for an argument, will look up that business model, you mentioned.

    Any idea where I can find it?

    I am not aware of any actual answers sorry. Certainly Microsoft aren't being very forthcoming with information.

    I haven't noticed any negative consequences for having ignored it. However, I also don't generally use my pc for professional purposes and I noted a reply here that someone with a business account couldn't risk ignoring it.

    I don't recall seeing feedback from them regarding an outcome though.

    Sorry this isn't particularly helpful.

    Even sorrier Microsoft aren't being at all helpful...
