Hello,
I am a small business owner, with just an Microsoft 365 Business Basic licence.
I suddenly got an email, apparently from Microsoft that I dont understand at all
Its says:
You are receiving this email because your associated Microsoft Entra ID tenant (tenant ID XXX ) has been inactive for more than 200 days.
Required action: To continue using your tenant, make a purchase before May 11, 2025. If you don’t make a purchase before this date, your next purchase with Microsoft will require a new Microsoft Entra ID tenant to continue using Microsoft services.
I dont know what an Entra Tenant ID is? What purchase should I make?
My MS 365 licence ends only May 26 2025 and will be renewed of course.
Is that what this email is about?

I think it is not a scam, it is just Microsoft trying to tidy up a few thousand dead Entra accounts. I wanted to work out whether it referred to my current active business O365 account or something else. Logged in with an admin account, I could look up the id of my current account in the Microsoft 365 Entra online tools, and it did not match the one in the email.
So I wanted to understand the account that would be deleted. I could not find a utility in the MS online system that allowed me to enter the id from the email, and discover anything about the account details. I found a utility at www.get-tenant.info that takes an id and returns info about it, including the whatever.onmicosoft.com domain name. I recognised this as an error I had made 10 years ago when setting it up, and I had abandoned the account and started again. I would have deleted the erroneous account at the time but I could not see how to do so.
Maybe the utility I found will enable others to work out what the id in the message refers to.

I am from a non-english speaking country which means I use microsoft in a different language.
I don´t even know if it´s about Windows or some microsoft Office stuff.

It's all about money. As far as Windows 11 is concerned, we will still be able to use Windows 10 but without the updates and we will be exposed to more threats as Windows 10 won't provide protection. I am very sceptical about every upgrade as every new one is so much worse than the previous one. Take Skype, for example. We were forced to go to Teams, which I have no interest in. Skype was simple and straightforward for the needs of people who want to spend time out of doors rather than waste it staring at the screen, I'm sure everyone will agree with me here. It is absolutely disgusting that we are coerced into something we don't want or need! But the greed is driving Microsoft! Sadly, we have no say and have to go along with it if we want to use the software. I have 3 words for the computer geeks who have nothing better to do than stare at the computer and work on updates: GET A LIFE! And realise once and for all that you will be an invalid at the age of 40 - affected motoric, faded eyesight, back and muscular pain, etc. I am just trying to figure out what to do. Can somebody tell me if I can use just Google account in place of Microsoft? Is this going to work, or do I really have to pay for the tenant ID and how often will we be paying? Microsoft will not give us the answer, so I'd like to appeal to those who are more knowledgeable. Thank you.
Look at my last comments (2-3 up). There I describe the solution to this specific issue in my case.
PS: But you are correct: the first official Microsoft answer indeed was useless
