we found out that when I browse folders in MS Excel or Word, I can see the folder and it is not displayed as a placeholder. Therefore we copied the path of the last opened file from onedrive in MS Excel https://d.docs.live.net/.../foldres... etc. and mapped it as a network folder, then access via the explorer works. What do you think?

Thank you for finding a work around and posting this! This will give me time to do what I need to do until I migrate all my files to Google.
Sadly this workaround no longer works for me. The network drive spontaneously disconnected yesterday and when I try to click on it to see the files in File Explorer, it pops up a login dialog again, this time pre-populating the user name field with MicrosoftAccount\MYEMAILADDRESS (showing my image, so presumably it's worked this out just fine), but it will accept neither my microsoft logon password nor the App Password I had to generate to get it to work last time.
So now I am stuck with browser only access.
Hello @Jack_Nichols, I pointing this thread to you because this is a serios issue for MSA customers of OneDrive accessing/sync shared folders in the native windows explorer experience.

Migrating to Google Workspace because of this. Microsoft has failed miserably with this LONG STANDING issue. I am juggling downloading many GB of data to workaround this technically juvenile issue.

Same issue here. after i wasn't the only one at the office to get the onedrive shared folder problem i searched for a fix or workaround.
THen i found this and tried the network drive workaround and it worked for us yesterday. Now i am back in office and it doesn't work anymore.
