why would my OneDrive suddenly be processing over 40,000 changes?

I am also having this issue...trying to process > 500,000 files. Nothing has changed on my MacBook Air, so what has changed with Microsoft that is triggering this issue?

I have the same issue today. No obvious reason why it has to reprocess over a quarter million files.. Argh - a lot of CPU consumption for no apparent reason. This has not happened often, but even 3 or 4 times in a couple years raises a red flag regarding the durability of the Onedrive cloud system.

The worst it is that new files dont sync by the meantime.

I have to use a usb drive again.

Now it's my turn I guess. Was processing over 100,000 files, can't remember exactly, left my computer on now for a couple of days and it's down to 87,000. Like others, only processing one every 2 seconds or so. And all of my files in the cloud give a "The file couldn’t be opened." error. So I can't work. And I'm supposed to be on vacation now, not scanning through Internet forums trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with One Drive. And apparently this has been a problem for months. I never liked OneDrive but this seems to be the deal-breaker.

All Of my 3 PC's started this today 273k files on each... And stuck. one at 1984, another 125705 files and las completely OneDrive settings opens only white window.

OneDrive Logs (which are impossible to read by human and g-zipped) are created one 1MB file every 2 minutes or so.

I now have some 1300 of those files at

%localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\logs

Yesterday there has been some update, which seems not to completed too well...

You can unpack those with eg 7zip and then notepad.
