"We are sorry, but this feature is deprecated" (Smart Lookup on Word for Mac)

I just right-clicked on a word to use the "Smart Lookup" feature, and I received this message, "We are sorry, but this feature is deprecated." I am a current subscriber and logged in.

I appreciate your help!

As stated in this thread and elsewhere in the forums, Smart Lookup has been discontinued. The official notice is in the article at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/get-insights-into-what-you-re-working-on-with-smart-lookup-debf2083-5ac0-4739-8667-ae2467bec044.

    Nobody here can bring back features which developers remove.

    Your comments are valid but they need to ne conveyed to Microsoft using the Feedback feature referred to throughout the thread. Those comments/suggestions/complaints go directly to the development group for consideration.

    Don't expect an immediate reinstatement of the feature or even a personal reply but responsible Feedback is monitored & prioritized by those who do make the decisions & have the ability to implement changes.

    Don't expect anything at all, because there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that Microsoft will revert this change.

    Nobody's actually reading those messages, they're being aggregated and analyzed by AI and filtered through the Marketing department for prioritization.

    Though I like copilot for other information. It is not made to perform instantly, An in and out, 2 second look up. When I am in the middle of a storyline, smart look up was a brilliant means to that instantaneous end. I find what I am looking for, The Thought is still in my head and away I write. Smart look up is the writing tool for that type of job.

    With copilot, now everything stops, from my thought flow to my writing momentum, as I now have to type what I want into copilot. Or copy and go to keyboard shortcuts because copy and paste simply is not there. No right click menu in copilot.  Then I get information I neither need nor want, that I have to weed through to find the one part of the meaning of that particular word that I wanted.

    Please bring back, smart look up.  Copilot I use for research, sentence structure questions and so and so forth.

    The right tool for that type of job.

    Nobody is questioning your right to complain but the message you're replying to was not addressed to you. It was a reply to another user in regard to a matter of semantics with no relationship to the subject of the thread.

    Just for clarification: I'm just as irritated as anyone by how Microsoft has handled the Copilot issue. What we pay for, though, is the right to use the software Microsoft provides. It's owned by Microsoft so they are free to do as they wish. Complaints are best addressed to those who are in a position to address the concern
