OneDrive shared folders are now links, not folders! How do I fix this?

I have a number of folders shared with me by other OneDrive users. I've added these to My Files to appear alongside the folders on my OneDrive account. Up until yesterday, they appeared as folders on my PC, alongside the other folders which belong to my OneDrive account. Now these folders that are shared with me are appearing as shortcut links instead of folders on my PC.

This has happened to 3 different PCs which are all connected to the same OneDrive account. I have uninstalled OneDrive, cleared the cache, etc. and reinstalled on one PC, but the problem remains. I've removed shared folders, had them unshared by the owner, reshared back to me, and then added again to My Files, but this didn't work either.

How do I fix this?

We just ran into this. This is a terrible recommendation and should not be considered a long-term solution. Our company uses both personal and business OneDrive accounts with shared links. So far, we've seen this feature collapse only on personal drives. This is a big loss for the both the personal and business use cases as we regularly collaborate with contractors that solely use personal accounts. We cannot expect people to start mapping drives instead of simply using the file sync service.

The issues that we've seen --

    a) onedrive desktop client didn't warn or notify of change

    b) the web ui gives the impression that you can recreate the shared link. it immediately reports "unable to create link" with no reason, error code, or anything of useful.

    c) we're sorting through dupes created on several shared folders created on desktops

    d) via the web ui: owner of shared folder can create docs in the shared folder, but the change is not seen by anyone who has access to the shared folder.

    e) via the web ui: non-owners of the shared folder can create docs and it is seen by the owner (and others).

It's more than just the file sync service horking links and converting them to .url files. Based on our quick test of the owner creating files but those files not seen by users, it appears there's a grander permission issue to boot.

Please get this fixed asap. This is impacting how we work.

With this method, I was only able to add my own folders. When I tried to add the folders that are shared with me, an error popped up saying that I had misspelled the folder path.

    Edit:
The second method worked for shared folders, but as another user said, it's not cached, and the usability is very poor.

    What?
Are you serious? A mapped drive webdav-like to solve A GIANT problem like this?

    ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?!??!

In Onedrive we have life, documents, stories, photos, work... everything. And you are SIMPLY suggesting to map a drive!??!?!

A problem that you have nearly for one year? Take a look at this

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/one-drive-shared-folder-problem/1e206690-40ea-482f-af60-6ef83b5e580c

My whole family shares folder each others and NOW ALL IS A MESS!!! Every single ******** folder DUPLICATED with the name of the computer, using the name of THE COMPUTER in which the sync has gone.

So I have shared a photo-family folder, right?
    now I have

    photo-family-pcx

    photo-family-pcy

    photo-family-notebooka

    photo-family-notebookc

    photo-family-mywife

    photo-family-myson

THE SAME FOLDER duplicated. Polish this will be a mess!!!!

    How it can be possible?

How is it possible that in a year you have not solved a problem of this gravity?

I am seriously thinking of abandoning onedrive and turning to other cloud services that are MUCH more reliable.

Under OneDrive -> Help -> Known problems, I found this:

    Issue

Some OneDrive shared folders shortcuts located in your My Files folder may show up as .url internet shortcuts instead of actual folders.

If you try to open the folder shortcut, it opens as a webpage (and you may be asked to sign in) instead of a folder.

    Status

We are aware of the issue and are working on resolving it. The .url internet shortcuts will automatically convert back to a folder when the issue is resolved.

You can still access the shared folder content, but it will be via OneDrive.com
