OneDrive shared folders showing up as URL links and not actual folders

Hi,

When will this problem be fixed? It has been unresolved for nearly two months now.

Issue

Some OneDrive shared folders shortcuts located in your My Files folder may show up as .url internet shortcuts instead of actual folders.

If I try to open the folder shortcut, it opens as a webpage instead of a folder.

Best Regards ,

Blanchi Dabre

    For me it just started happening today, 23 Feb 2025, both on PC & Mac. I need to move some files between shared folders, tried with the web interface and the "Move here" button is grayed out... the phone app started to re-sync all 3000+ photos that were already synced .. Funny how when i was in the phone app it popped a message asking for a review.. and while i was writing my issues with the service and the iOS / Android apps.. it crashed..

    The service gets worse and worse by the years. I had since quite some time the idea to switch to a private cloud solution, and these issues are just a catalyst for this..

    Shared folders on Onedrive are appearing as a link and not folder in explorer since last 8 months. 8 months of promises that the problem will be solved soon. Is it a joke ?

    I suggest to start a class action again microsoft to have endly a solution.

    I have the same problem.

    I would suggest contacting Microsoft support through OneDrive (I did it through the online OneDrive website) and opening a support case. The more complaints they receive, the more likely the problem will get resolved.

    For what it's worth, I got the following response, which is not really encouraging given how long this has been a known issue:

    ======

    I apologize for the inconvenience this experience has caused and we appreciate you for reporting the issue with the OneDrive Shared folder redirecting to the web.

    Please be assured that our Engineering team is aware of this problem, as it has been reported by other users, and they're actively working on a resolution for everyone.

    While no action is required on your part, we may proceed to archive this case, as the fix when available, will be implemented through an update to your device.

    In the meantime, we recommend using OneDrive on the web as a workaround for accessing your shared folder files. You can access your files under the shared section through:

    1. Visit www.onedrive.com via a browser.
    2. Click the shared section
    3. Click shared with me

    We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience while we address the issue.

    =======

    This exact problem just started to happen to me today (macOS). I have relied on using shared folders with onedrive for years, and I love using it! therefore, it is most disappointing that the only solution is to wait. especially as it seems to have been around for years. I, along with everyone else, certainly hope for this issue to be resolved quickly!
