OneDrive shared folders showing up as URL links and not actual folders

Hi,

When will this problem be fixed? It has been unresolved for nearly two months now.

Issue

Some OneDrive shared folders shortcuts located in your My Files folder may show up as .url internet shortcuts instead of actual folders.

If I try to open the folder shortcut, it opens as a webpage instead of a folder.

Best Regards ,

Blanchi Dabre

This exact problem just started to happen to me today (macOS). I have relied on using shared folders with onedrive for years, and I love using it! therefore, it is most disappointing that the only solution is to wait. especially as it seems to have been around for years. I, along with everyone else, certainly hope for this issue to be resolved quickly!

A co-worker's PC here at the office was fine up until this afternoon. It now has the same problem where folders in "Personal" have changed to url's. 2/21/2025

This issue has been known since June 24 and is significantly impacting all of my shared folders and group activities, making it impossible to work. It’s disappointing that Microsoft has not dedicated the time and attention to resolving this, seemingly considering it a minor issue. However, this is a critical problem that must be addressed as soon as possible.

It would also be much appreciated if you communicated such problems transparently upfront when offering your services. I purchased Microsoft 365 licenses with the expectation of being able to reliably share my folders and use OneDrive effectively, but that has not been the case. As a result, I will likely need to consider alternative backup and file-sharing services, such as Google Drive or others, which is unfortunate.

    Hey Mia,

Can you ask engineers when it will be fixed or are they deploying fix to users on backend?

Users are noticing that they are 2 versions of user's OneDrive Web...When flle is shared from the old and the receiver is on the newer account it sees LINKS (URLS) instead of folder. Does MS upgrade the accounts so the is more users affected , because the change is in progress?

    Can you confirm that?

Why your response is so shallow....

It would be nice to ask OneDrive team for a statement in this case? Like they could say: We are deploying the account and there is a problem, We know that the fix will be until May or something.

The worst thing is that you cannot search for files (Online) when they are shared. I can see folders online but i cannot search in them.

This is 2 BUGS...so how we can use Online version if it crippled also.

Why they cannot tell more about the problem?
