OneDrive shared folders always open in webbrowser instead of windows explorer

Since this morning, folders that are shared with me in OneDrive are always opened in the web browser.

Previously, these same shared folders always opened in Windows Explorer.

The fact that the files are only available in the web browser leads to a strong reduction in functionality and is problematic. I saved diles to the folder and different programs on my local pc call these files.

I followed the steps in the procedure:

Add and sync shared folders to OneDrive for home
I
 have performed the steps:
Unlink and re-link OneDrive

Reinstalling OneDrive

Reset OneDrive

None of which helped or solved the issue.

This issue appears to have started after installation of the new OneDrive version Build 25.015.0126.0002 (64-bit)
A quick fix for this feature bug is appreciated!

Apparently, Microsoft is aware of it. https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-finally-has-update-on-onedrive-shared-folders-turning-to-internet-shortcut-links/

Hopefully, this report reflects what is actually happening at Microsoft and not merely a support reps comforting response.

Your company sucks. You make me pay a fortune to have the privilege to be able to use Microsoft 360 then you don’t allow me to use any of my products because everything is web based and you won’t let me attach it to my device. Fix it now !!!

This has been broken for me, as well, since late Feb 2025. Today, 3/13, it seems to have magically fixed itself. When I clicked the OneDrive icon in the taskbar, clicked Open folder, and clicked the correct shared OneDrive Documents folder in the Quick Access pane, I now have access to my shared OneDrive folders. Everything is a few weeks' behind on syncing, so this is taking a while. But files that have been there since before this fiasco started, are fully accessible by clicking on them in File Explorer. I'm still missing my pinned settings in the File Explorer Quick Access pane that went to my shared OneDrive folders, and I'll try re-adding those shortly.

I'm so relieved, and desperately hoping this continues to work. It's cost me untold amounts of time, energy, and frustration over the past few weeks to have my workflow so deeply disturbed.

Quick update: Although I can access through FE shared OD files now, it is not syncing any of the changes I've made to files since it originally broke back in Feb. I've tried everything I can think of, including pause-restart sync, reset OD, uninstall-reinstall OD, uninstall-delete affected folders-reinstall OD, and none of this is working. The updated files (everything I've worked on in the past 3-ish weeks) is still present online. But FE can't seem to access them. And now my laptop's FE also is showing the un-updated version of these files/folders, even though my laptop did not originally experience this issue. (I paused Windows updates on my laptop to hopefully avoid the original issue there, but now it has spread to my laptop anyway via this lack-of-syncing issue.)

I still have this issue right now. Is this feature going to be moved to a more "premium" tier that I have to pay extra for?
