OneDrive shared folders always open in webbrowser instead of windows explorer

Since this morning, folders that are shared with me in OneDrive are always opened in the web browser.

Previously, these same shared folders always opened in Windows Explorer.

The fact that the files are only available in the web browser leads to a strong reduction in functionality and is problematic. I saved diles to the folder and different programs on my local pc call these files.

I followed the steps in the procedure:

Add and sync shared folders to OneDrive for home
I have performed the steps:
Unlink and re-link OneDrive

Reinstalling OneDrive

Reset OneDrive

None of which helped or solved the issue.

This issue appears to have started after installation of the new OneDrive version Build 25.015.0126.0002 (64-bit)
A quick fix for this feature bug is appreciated!

    Yikes, this is concerning. If an issue has been open since June 2024, it's likely that the problem is structural in nature, and that there is no easy solution. Similar to how the need for Mandatory Integrity Control required a re-write of the Windows operating system.

    Since I rely on shared OneDrive folders on multiple MSAs in my homelab (to separate duties between admin/non-admin accounts) I already took the plunge and created a new Microsoft Account. It's inconvenient, but I've overcome greater challenges.

    OneDrive Team: I love your product and happily pay an annual subscription for Microsoft 365 Family plan. 6TB of online storage for $99 USD per year is the best deal in tech outside of the Steam Summer Sale. If you need to deliver bad news, please be up-front and honest.

    Just came across this issue today. Was working yesterday. This issue is causing problems with some of our applications as they are pointing to this 'shared folder' and can't find them anymore.
