As many other people have demonstrated their annoyance at this here, I've just had the same message and had to go through to switch to a "classic" plan which is utter tripe. Microsoft clearly hoping to clean up on a massive monthly price hike from unexpecting people who believe that there's no other option. What a really horrible underhand sales tactic Microsoft. Do better.

It should have been offered as an option to upgrade not given as a price increase message, and you know it. Really poor effort and bad taste left afterwards. If I didn't need it, I would walk away from you given these shady tactics.

Ah cool, good feedback thank you. It won't let me choose Classic at the moment, will come back to it when it's closer to expiring.

I don't know where you are but I am in Australia and was able to change to 365 Personal Classic instead of accepting the attempt at forced renewal at 50% more. I made the change about 2 days before the expiry of my then-current subscription. You have to go through the cancellation process (which is why I left it until just 2 days to go) but there comes a point when you can choose something else. That is when the old Classic is available at last year's prices. And I only knew there was an option because of other people here. Microsoft were obviously hoping people would not notice the increase or the really annoying constant AI-generated pop-ups and just pay up. We are clearly smarter than that, especially in this high cost of living climate.

The link I had posted just above your reply here was what I followed. Classic was absolutely the option there, I switched with no issues. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/switching-to-microsoft-365-personal-and-family-classic-plans-58342e83-38e7-4cda-b63b-88604a8fb7ef
