I don't want to use the copilot features that have automatically been added to my Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PPT, etc.) - and I feel that this should be something that we are able to do, without having to purchase a subscription to copilot and then disable it.
How can I disable these features, to stop the shadow offer to use copilot on every new line I start on a word document and remove the icon from the tool bar?
This should be something that is an optional add on, rather than a mandated installation.

There IS NO File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Privacy Options.
There IS NO File > Options at all in the Mac version of Word.
There IS NO File > Feedback either.
Have you ever even used Word for Mac? Are you just copy-pasting canned replies?
I agree that forcing Copilot on all MS Office users is one of the most arrogant, ignorant, misinformed, disastrous, debilitating, tone-deaf, and idiotic moves ever made. I want my voice to be heard and shared with Microsoft.
The recommended solutions do not, in fact, work. The fact that this was rolled out as an automatic opt-in is entirely against all sanity and protocol. The fact that there is no simple opt-out exacerbates the insanity. This isn't just a matter of preference or convenience, although customer reaction and customer choice should be enough to change this behavior. This action of MS has potentially damaging ramifications for anyone using this product. AI may be helpful, but it is a plague to integrity, intelligence and creativity when it isn't wanted, asked for, or desirable.
Fix. This. Now. And keep your damn hands off of my software experience unless I ask you for it or opt into it.
How come all of the recommended options do not exist in my version of MS Word? I am running Version 16.93 (25011212). There is no Word> Preferences - Copilot in my version of Word.
It may depend on the type of License, but I've since determined that it doesn't disable Copilot anyway.

If you are using Office for Mac, open any Office application and select the application menu (for example, Word or Excel) > > Preferences > Privacy.
- Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > “Privacy Options. This displays a checkbox for “Turn on optional connected experiences”.
- You will then see the Privacy Settings dialog box with a checkbox to “Enable optional connected experience”. Deselect “Enable optional connected experience”.
- Restart the Microsoft 365 application
That solution was from a MSFT agent, many of whom don't seem to know the difference between a Mac & a PC. There is no Trust Center on a Mac — That's a Windows contrivance. It points to the correct Preferences pane [marked in red] but you then need to click the Manage Connected Experiences button. It's also been indicated, though, that disabling Connected Experiences doesn't kill the beast, either.

**This method does not work on Mac OS 13.7 (Ventura).
