How to disable or remove Copilot in Office 365 Personal

Since the latest Office 365 Personal update Version 2410 (Build 18129.20116) Copilot Draft has been enabled in Word, which I don't want.

I have not checked in other Office 365 programs to see if Copilot is enabled.

How do I disable or better, remove Copilot for Office 365 Personal?

Noting that Office 365 Personal does not have access to the Microsoft Edge admin centre from a personal email address.

Why doesn't Microsoft allow the User to decide whether to opt in to enable Copilot, then automatically enabling Copilot, and making it difficult for the User to disable or remove it!

A short update to include the following from a chat session (after moving through 3 operators) which is interesting to say the least. My question was asking which of the email (with the $159 renewal figure) and the details in my account (with the $109 renewal figure) was correct.

once your subscription is due, you will be charged $159 for the updated subscription with many new features. However, we understand you prefer the classic version, and that is possible. I have spoken to many customers with the same concern. You can contact us before your subscription is due, and we will process the renewal for the classic version at $109. The email you received is correct; it serves as a notification for Microsoft 365 subscribers, but you can remain on the classic version.

    Restore your version of Office

    • Close all Office software, in the "Start Menu", find "Command Prompt" (or "cmd"), right-click and select "Run as administrator" ;
    • At the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter: cd %programfiles% \Common Files\microsoft shared\ClickToRun
    • Then enter the following and press Enter Officec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.17531.20120 This will bring Office back to a stable version in February 2024.

    If the above steps are successful, you'll be able to view Office version 17531.20120 under File -> Account -> Product Information. If another version is displayed here, it means that some of the steps were not executed successfully, please refer to the previous method and try again. After restoring, open any Office application, such as Word, click File -> account. On the right side, check the "Microsoft 365 and Office Updates" heading , click the "Update Options" button, and select the "Disable Updates" option to disable the auto-update feature. Please consider turning on automatic updates again after successfully switching to Classic to avoid updating again to a new version with Copilot.

    Regarding this issue, I remain perplexed that all of the answers that I have found online up to date are based around regressing to an earlier version of office and turning off updates.

    The key request to Microsoft through all of this would seem to be that they put in an option to turn copilot off in the most up to date Office products. Why is this request not being actioned, or at the very least an answer as to why this may not be a possible enhancement of the system being addressed?

    As a footnote, I always strive to keep all the products that I subscribe to, whether Microsoft or other vendors, up to date.

    Please could someone from Microsoft actually address the question of if / when copilot will be given an off switch.

    After much badgering a microsoft sales staff last night on chat, I managed to get them to purchase and checkout the classic product (on my behalf) which cannot be found on any public websites.

    It does exist but they do not display it for purchase publically, nor have any documentation on it willing to send to me, but the price was the $11, not $16, and called classic.

    In saying that, i went to bed and thought about it more, and got up and went another way because of their greedy conduct and have since unsubscribed all their products after 25 years and set myself up cheaper, elsewhere.

    I am happy to share my solution with anyone who wants to PM me.

    Good riddance MS. You are going to lose alot of customers from your co-pilot push and confusion exit from your products to the masses.
