How to disable or remove Copilot in Office 365 Personal

Since the latest Office 365 Personal update Version 2410 (Build 18129.20116) Copilot Draft has been enabled in Word, which I don't want.

I have not checked in other Office 365 programs to see if Copilot is enabled.

How do I disable or better, remove Copilot for Office 365 Personal?

Noting that Office 365 Personal does not have access to the Microsoft Edge admin centre from a personal email address.

Why doesn't Microsoft allow the User to decide whether to opt in to enable Copilot, then automatically enabling Copilot, and making it difficult for the User to disable or remove it!

A short update to include the following from a chat session (after moving through 3 operators) which is interesting to say the least. My question was asking which of the email (with the $159 renewal figure) and the details in my account (with the $109 renewal figure) was correct.

once your subscription is due, you will be charged $159 for the updated subscription with many new features. However, we understand you prefer the classic version, and that is possible. I have spoken to many customers with the same concern. You can contact us before your subscription is due, and we will process the renewal for the classic version at $109. The email you received is correct; it serves as a notification for Microsoft 365 subscribers, but you can remain on the classic version.

    I switched my subscription to Classic but it said that would take effect in my next billing cycle, which is in November (2025). In my account subscription is still says Copilot is there; presumably until November. I want it gone now. What can I do?

    Hi Ticker-2, I nominated early December '24 to switch to Family Classic, but mine subscription is due this weekend to renew and switch, so I only had about 6 weeks to wait not 10 months.

    I had not downloaded any new updates for Office 365 Family since early November when Copilot raised its ugly head, that was until yesterday where in the other thread on the same problem of Copilot, it was posted that in the new update it had added in Options - the facility to disable Copilot by unchecking the box. Not sure if the same is for the Personal version.

    I opened Word > Accounts > New Updates. Once the new update was installed, I restarted Word then went to File > Options > Copilot (4th down from top) and unchecked the box. The screen shot below shows what it looks like.

    I have no idea of what "Collapse Copilot summary automatically" is or does.

    This is the Build Number in my Word in the Family Version.

    Everyone is well aware that they added an option in Word. But that's it. Only in Word. In OneNote it's in your face all the time with no option to remove it. It can't be disabled in OneNote, Powerpoint, Outlook, and Excel.

    It hasn't been integrated into Publisher yet because nobody uses it. Same goes for Access. (Who knows, maybe it'll show up in these apps tomorrow)

    Start > Menu (all) > look for Copilot and hover over it > right mouse click > Uninstall > DONE or Settings > Apps >Installed Aps > Copilot > Uninstall > DONE
