How to disable or remove Copilot in Office 365 Personal

Since the latest Office 365 Personal update Version 2410 (Build 18129.20116) Copilot Draft has been enabled in Word, which I don't want.

I have not checked in other Office 365 programs to see if Copilot is enabled.

How do I disable or better, remove Copilot for Office 365 Personal?

Noting that Office 365 Personal does not have access to the Microsoft Edge admin centre from a personal email address.

Why doesn't Microsoft allow the User to decide whether to opt in to enable Copilot, then automatically enabling Copilot, and making it difficult for the User to disable or remove it!

A short update to include the following from a chat session (after moving through 3 operators) which is interesting to say the least. My question was asking which of the email (with the $159 renewal figure) and the details in my account (with the $109 renewal figure) was correct.

once your subscription is due, you will be charged $159 for the updated subscription with many new features. However, we understand you prefer the classic version, and that is possible. I have spoken to many customers with the same concern. You can contact us before your subscription is due, and we will process the renewal for the classic version at $109. The email you received is correct; it serves as a notification for Microsoft 365 subscribers, but you can remain on the classic version.

    Thank you, this worked.

    Now, how bout you stop upgrading our 365 account automatically!! This is a greedy move by MS. You're hoping people don't notice you've upgraded people's 365 account to a new subscription and you're hoping they can't figure out how to revert to the classic version. If I hadn't seen a news headline about the increased charge for copilot, I might have missed this change too.

    Next time you make an "improvement" to 365 and it's going to cost more, GIVE US THE NOTICE OF THE NEW FEATURES AND ALLOW US TO UPGRADE IF "WE" WANT TO.

    Lat week I had posted screenshots of the different versions of Office 365 Family - Personal - Basic.

    Each description of these versions did not mention Copilot or AI, only the various software Word, Excell etc.

    I have just gone into Manage Subscriptions, as my Office 365 Family will expire in January 2025, and I wanted to see what Microsoft would do if I clicked on Cancel Subscription. As they wanted me to continue my subscription, the following options displayed

    (see screenshots).

    The option to have Family Classic (with Copilot/AI) at a cheaper subscription. It would appear that Microsoft has seen some light in regards to putting Copilot/AI into Office 365 without providing the user the option to either remove or turn off Copilot.

    I previously had Office 365 Family which was under a different account (to my existing account) which expired in January 2024.

    I went into the expired account to see what Office 365 versions would be offered if I decide to reactivate my subscription and purchase as a new Office 365 subscription. Only 2 options are offered - Office 365 Family and Personal each with Copilot/AI included. And it is well displayed that Copilot is part of Office 365.

    Hello Stephen,

    Here's more detail on how to switch back to a classic subscription:

    If you have not yet renewed at the higher price：

    1. Visitaccount.microsoft.com/services.
    2. Select the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription you have and select “Manage”.
    3. Select “Cancel Subscription ”.
    4. View “Switch to a subscription that suits you better” and select “Microsoft 365 Personal /Family Classic”.
    5. After following the instructions to complete your subscription. Your subscription will automatically renew to Classic when its existing subscription expires.

    If you have already renewed at a higher price：

    1. Go to account.microsoft.com“ and go to Order History”.
    2. Go to Orders and perform a “Return Order” on the renewal subscription.
      (This will be refunded and the subscription canceled immediately.)
    3. Create a new order.
    4. Search by Product ID (cannot search by name).
      1. For M365 Family Classic, use CFQ7TTC0TNCP
      2. For M365 Personal Classic, use CFQ7TTC0TNCN
    5. Select monthly or annual terms.
    6. Complete the purchase, including agreeing to the requirements.

    However, this only applies to switching subscriptions, if you wish to stop showing Copilot directly from Microsoft 365, as far as I know it can only be done by rolling back to an older version at the moment, see the method in this reply: Remove Copilot from Word - Microsoft Community

    Yes, perhaps Microsoft should consider creating a feature like New Outlook so that users can choose whether to enable it or not. This is a technical discussion community community so it can't handle application development and design issues, for which you can submit feedback by clicking File->Feedback in Office.

    Hi TonyAuckland1,

    I understand the concern this change causes.

    Since Copilot is a connected service, it is my understanding that disabling the Microsoft 365 online experience accomplishes the same thing.

    But this can also cause other online services to be unavailable. In the meantime, click File->Feedback in the Office app to let Microsoft development team hear your valuable thoughts.
