This morning Copilot appeared in Word. I do not have a subscription for it, nor do I want it at all. It just appeared in what must have been an update.
I have the most up-to-date word running on a desktop with Windows 11.
I need to disable Copilot. I do not want to see it in the ribbon or right in the middle of the writing space (in the image).
Please advise how to disable, remove or just stop Copilot as I can't seem to remove it. I'm downright frustrated with it and didn't ask or request it. I did not buy it or subscribe to it.

Edit: Found the best solution was to roll back to a previous version before it updated. I replied further down and used a method that worked for me. Best I can suggest is do that and then start updating again when they allow us to turn stupid Copilot OFF.
2nd Edit: In the newest update (including in Australia) you can now turn it off in word for windows: File -> Options -> copilot (4th option) -> untick enable.

I don't see that. All I see under Copilot is "collapse copilot summary."

OK, I was seeing that "collapse" option and I'm on a Mac. If you are on a Mac, there is now a way to disable Copilot but you have to have the latest software update. Please scroll through the feeds on this post string and look for the word HALLELUJAH. That post has step-by-step instructions for how to disable Copilot if you're on a Mac.
Followed 2nd edit instructions and it now seems to be disabled. Thank you so much.

Microsoft is poo! I spend every waking hour as a volunteers in the NHS....no financial support at all.Volunteered for ten years to make a better place for patients. Own inks,own paper grad=fting in all weathers at Covid clinics , campaigning for better screening, alxheimers, breast , bowel etc, combatting waste,Addressing our gvt and many too many to mention.All I want to do is put together a word doc free fim co pilot.....not much to ask and all morning has been wasted in doing so.....I feel like crying I am so frustrated and I don't cry!Why do Microsoft hold us to ranson all the time?
I just encountered this problem that I never asked for and don't want. When I go to File, I don't have the "Options" option - When I go to File I only have "Properties" am I looking in the wrong place to turn this ridiculousness off?
